Peralta descendants tell how the family buried their silver saddles after the Gold Rush. The silver saddles have never been found.

With its silver decorations, this saddle, made in the early 1900s, embodies the romantic image of the "Spanish days" that grew up in California after the days of real wealth and influence for the californios was over. George G Reinle, a noted Oakland physician, probably owned the saddle, from Bauman's Saddlery in Santa Rosa.
