Antonio's second wife died in June, a few months before a major earthquake on the Hayward fault shook the East Bay. It destroyed the 1840 adobe and the adobe wall with its 22 lean-tos, and severely damaged the smaller 1821 adobe. One month later, Antonio's youngest daughter died.
