Fruitvale, 1878
In the late 1870s and 1880s, gentleman farmers flocked to Fruitvale, transforming it again, this time into a country resort for San Francisco's nouveau riche.
The Peralta House was modest compared to houses being built by the new landowners, such as the Cameron Stanford, Pardee, Cohen-Bray, and Dunsmuir houses. These large Victorian mansions are still standing in Oakland today, and are open to the public.
