Youth Making History

Youth Making History engages youth in civic life, trains next-generation leaders, and builds skills for their future! This afterschool program creates a safe and empowering space for young people to explore their roots, record their stories, express themselves artistically, and to study the changes that have taken place in our city, so they can make an impact in our community.

YMH activities include:

  • Building computer skills

  • Speaking at Oakland City Council and advocating at other agencies

  • Collaborating creatively and thinking critically about their role in society

  • Researching their own heritage and telling their stories

  • Creating museum exhibits

  • Producing community events

  • Exploring indigenous cultures, community history, and food traditions

  • Leading exciting museum tours for the public

  • Becoming the next generation of leaders in their community and city
